PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
Would you enjoy being at the front-end of pharmacies, interacting with people, giving advice on over-the-counter medicines, and healthcare products? Would you like to acquire skills in customer service and retail selling?
This new one-year course will equip learners with the relevant knowledge and experience to work as a retail assistant in various health related areas including a pharmacy. It may also offer an opportunity to pursue a pharmacy technician qualification in the future.
Learners will be equipped with skills which include helping clients choose medical aids and appliances, to demonstrating and selling products. There will be a focus on health related subjects which will enhance students skills in assisting prospective clients in the workplace.
There are many new job opportunities in the expanding retail pharmacy sector, and with these qualifications you will be well placed to gain full-time employment and advance your career.

EMPLOYMENT/PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES
Education: The standard entry requirements for courses are as follows: • Applicants must have Leaving Certificate, LCA or equivalent • Holders of a QQI Level 4 Award are also eligible to apply. NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme. • Mature learners (over 23) may be exempt from the above academic requirements •
In addition applicants will have to undertake an interview.
CERF (Common European Framework of Reference) proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English. Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EEA Applicants and they may be subject to full international fees.
To access programmes leading to a particular award, the learner should have reached the standards of knowledge, skill and competence associated with the preceding level of the National Framework of Qualifications, i.e. to access a Level 6 programme, the learner must have achieved a Level 5 qualification.
Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with others responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.
Garda Vetting: All offers of a place on a programme at Central College Limerick are be made subject to the receipt of satisfactory Garda Vetting.
