Pharmacy Assistant

Pharmacy Assistant (QQI Level 5)

Duration: 1 Year

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

Would you enjoy being at the front-end of pharmacies, interacting with people, giving advice on over-the-counter medicines, and healthcare products? Would you like to acquire skills in customer service and retail selling?

This new one-year course will equip learners with the relevant knowledge and experience to work as a retail assistant in various health related areas including a pharmacy. It may also offer an opportunity to pursue a pharmacy technician qualification in the future.

Learners will be equipped with skills which include dispensing over-the-counter medications, helping clients choose medical aids and appliances, to demonstrating and selling products. There will be a focus on health related subjects which will enhance students skills in assisting prospective clients in the workplace.

There are many new job opportunities in the expanding retail pharmacy sector, and with these qualifications you will be well placed to gain full-time employment and advance your career.

Administration Charge: €165
QQI Exam Fee: €50*

*Exempt if you are the holder of a valid Medical Card

EMPLOYMENT/PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

    • Graduates can secure employment in the retail setting as a Pharmacy Assistant.
    • Graduates can also progress to further and higher education courses through the CAO.
    • Learners may also choose to complete the medicines and counter assistant modules with the IPU (Irish Pharmaceutical Union).
